Week of 9/19/11

This week in…
Reading: We are reading a folktale called: The Enormous Turnip. In this traditional Russian tale, an old man plants a turnip and urges it to grow. The turnip grows so big that the man cannot pull it up. He asks the help of others and is finally able to pull it up.
Reading focus skill: Sequencing
Spelling: Phonograms “-ack” and “ock”
Grammar: Nouns
Writing: Writing Prompts- students will be encouraged to start writing 5 sentence paragraphs.
Math: Missing Addend/ Mystery Number
Science: Science Experiment… Celery Stick Science

• If you are willing to donate celery stalks, plastic cups, or gummy bears to the class for our next two experiments, please write a note in your child’s planner. I will let you know if I need your contribution that day (we may have many responses).
• The end of first quarter is approaching quickly. Students will be able to participate in our first class store. They have been saving their class money for this event. If you can donate an item from the Dollar Store, or Target’s/ Walmart’s Dollar section please do by October 6th. Thank you in advance for your help. 
